Matt Stackhouse, a 6-8 center from nearby Hughesville, Pa., stepped into the starting lineup of the men's basketball team as a sophomore in 2001-02 and he made an immediate impact. While starting 27 games and appearing in all 28, he helped the team to the first conference title in program history while averaging 13.7 points and 8.6 rebounds. As a junior, he turned into one of the most dominating players in the Freedom Conference, finishing fourth in the league with 17.2 points per game and he led the league with 10.4 rebounds. He was also second with 2.12 blocked shots per game, setting a school record that lasted 11 seasons. As a senior, despite battling injuries, he still became the 24th player in program history to reach 1,000 points. He averaged 16.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game while coming back in time to lead the Warriors to their second Freedom Conference title in three years. One of two players in school history to win both conference titles in program history, Stackhouse set the school's career blocked shots record at 142, a mark that stood for 10 years. He is fifth in school history in field goal percentage (.587), sixth in free throws made (332) and seventh in rebounds (753), while his 1,204 points are 17th in school history. A three-time all-conference selection, Stackhouse was a second-team pick as a sophomore and senior and a first-team pick as a junior. He is now employed by M&T Bank and he is still active in adult recreation and YMCA basketball leagues throughout the Williamsport area. He also enjoys hiking and has become an avid golfer.
