The ninth All-American offensive lineman in program history, Matt Mendola was a strapping 6-6, 282 pounds by the time his senior year rolled around in 2003. Protecting the blind side as a left tackle, the Dunmore, Pa., native helped the Warriors to one of the most memorable seasons in program history, complete with a trip to the NCAA quarterfinals.

A four-year letterwinner and three-year starter, Mendola began to step into a national spotlight as a junior, when he was a part of the only offensive line in program history to earn D3football.com Team of the Week accolades, as the team racked up 50 points and 471 yards of offense in a 50-3 rout of Susquehanna.

As a senior, he was part of a Warriors’ squad that posted a 9-2 record, won a MAC title for the first time in four years and won its first NCAA Tournament game in five. After the season, accolades rolled in for Mendola. He earned his second all-region accolades from the Don Hansen Football Gazette and Second Team All-American accolades from that publication, third-team honors from the SID All-American list and an honorable mention nod from D3football.com. He also participated in the Aztec Bowl in 2004, competing with a Division III all-star team against a Mexican football squad.

Mendola was a three-time All-MAC selection on the line, earning first team honors in 2002 and 2003 and second-team accolades in 2001, helping the Warriors to 30 wins in his career.

After graduating, he continued to play football, joining the Arena Football 2 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers in 2006. He also began his professional career, obtaining an associate degree in surveying technology from Penn State, helping him move into the family-owned Mendola & Associates, P.C., where he is now the vice-president. He is a professional land surveyor in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. He is married to Laura (Heintzelman) ‘04 and the couple have three children, Emma, Gavin and Nathaniel.
