Jim Rich was one of the most versatile athletes in the early years of Coach Frank Girardi’s tenure and, in fact, was part of Girardi’s first recruiting class. A four-year starter at wide receiver and defensive back, Rich broke Lycoming’s school record for receiving yardage with 363 yards in 1973, helping him earn Honorable Mention All-MAC and Honorable Mention Associated Press All-State honors at the position. Even after leading the MAC North Division in receiving in his first two years at the College, Rich moved to defensive back to help fill a gap on the team. As a senior in 1975, he earned First Team All-MAC honors at the position and he led a unit that allowed the fewest yards per game in the NCAA. Rich also left Lycoming with the school record for touchdown receptions with seven, although both his receiving records have since been surpassed. He was inducted into the South Central Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.
