When the Warriors needed a bruising playmaker during the NCAA playoffs, the team had to look no further than Brian Thompson in the mid-90s. By the time he graduated, Thompson had racked up 3,267 yards, 649 attempts, 4,281 all-purpose yards, 34 touchdowns scored and 28 rushing touchdowns, all second in school history. In 1997, Thompson led the Warriors to the national championship game, rushing for 512 yards in four playoff games. His 1,644 rushing yards in 1997 is still the school record and his 14 rushing touchdowns in 1998 is tied for the school record. A three-time All-MAC running back, Thompson also earned Preseason All-American honors in 1998 from Street & Smith’s and the Sporting News.
