1998 Honorable Mention USILA All-American
Stepping on board the men’s lacrosse team for its first varsity season in 1997, Shawn Rosa left a mark that has been untouched in the last 12 years since he has left campus. The Webster, N.Y., native had a remarkably consistent career, finishing in the top 10 in the MAC in points three times and the top five in assists three times, including leading the league in assists as a senior with a school-record 50. A three-time all-conference selection, Rosa scored more than 50 points in all four years of his career, helping him set a career record of 274 that has never been broken. His 139 assists is also tops in the school record book and he is ranked amongst the top 10 in nine career categories and 10 single-season ones. His crowning achievement came as a sophomore when he was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association’s Honorable Mention All-American team after posting 35 goals and 33 assists, all while playing just 13 games, including seven with a broken thumb. The coach of the team at the time, Gene Peluso, said when Rosa was chosen to the team, “Shawn is the hardest working guy on the field during the season and the hardest worker in the offseason.” Perhaps that is what made him the perfect choice to replace Peluso as coach when he stepped down in 2001. Rosa coached the team for three years, guiding the team to the MAC title game in 2002 and finishing his time on the bench with a 24-20 record, 18-10 in MAC play. He was inducted into the Lycoming College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009.
