NSCAA Second Team All-American - 2015Lycoming College sophomore defender
Kyle Thomas (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) added one more high honor to a growing list, as he was named a 2015 Second Team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Â
"I'm extremely excited for Kyle, his teammates and his family," Lycoming head coach
Nate Gibboney said. "He is a great kid, comes from a great family and he has worked extremely hard for this since the first day he got here. He has improved so much over the last two years and he has stepped up as a leader, not just through his play, but he was also voted a captain by his teammates. He has done everything we have asked him to do since his first day here."
Â
Lycoming's center back, Thomas was a key part in the team setting a school-record with a miniscule 0.57 goals-against average, which was the 10
th-best mark in Division III. The 6-6 defender had a talent for winning balls out of the air and when needed, clearing balls away off the ground, which helped the team post a school-record tying 13 shutouts during the 2015 season.
Â
Already named the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year, Thomas has also been awarded First Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region and First Team All-MAC Commonwealth honors. He started all 22 games for the Warriors, playing complete games in 18 contests. He posted two goals and three assists, scoring huge goals in a regular-season 2-0 win over Messiah and a 1-0 win over Johnson & Wales in the first round of the NCAA Championship. Thomas was also named the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week twice this season.
Â
The Warriors finished their season with a remarkable school-record 18 wins (18-2-2), a school-record 20-game unbeaten streak and national rankings of 12 (d3soccer.com) and 15 (NSCAA), as the team hosted a Division III regional for the first time and advanced to the Division III sectionals for the first time in program history.
