2012 USILA All-American - Honorable Mention
Junior Stephen Romano (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) became the first Lycoming College men’s lacrosse All-American since 2001 and just the third in school history as the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association placed the two-time conference player of the year on the honorable mention portion of its squad, the organization announced on Tuesday, May 22.
Romano is the first Warrior to earn All-American honors since Mark Barnes earned three All-American nods from 1999-01. Shawn Rosa also earned Honorable Mention All-American honors in 1998.
Romano, who was named the 2011 Middle Atlantic Conference Player of the Year after leading the league in goals, assists and points, earned the Commonwealth Conference’s award this season after finishing second in the league in goals (2.47) and third in points (3.33) per game. The Middle Atlantic Conference split into the Commonwealth and Freedom conferences following the 2011 season.
The dynamic 5-7 attackman posted seven-goal games against Messiah and SUNY Geneseo. Always clutch in the team’s close games, Romano scored the game-winner in overtime against Messiah and assisted on the winner against Elizabethtown. He won three Commonwealth Conference Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week awards this season, giving him seven in his career. Amazingly, despite consistently drawing double teams and the opponent’s best defender, he still managed to post six hat tricks.
