Kramer secures sweep over Stevenson

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Senior Emilie Kramer (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) posted a win in 1:09.01 in the 100-yard breaststroke to clinch the first victory for the Lycoming College women's swim team under head coach Matt McGuriman, closing out a 92-89 win over Stevenson University, while the Lycoming men won 10 of 11 events to post a 77-34 win to complete the sweep on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the McDonogh School.
 
In the women's meet, the Warriors won the first four races before Stevenson won the next five to tie it at 74 heading into the final individual event, the 100-yard breaststoke. Kramer delivered a win over Juli Burnett, who finished two spots ahead of Kramer, who took fourth at the 2018 MAC Championships. The win gave Lycoming nine points, while freshmen Devon Kaiser (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) and Laura Grada (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) took third and fourth to give Lycoming 14 points in the event to take an 88-78 into the final relay, the 200-yard freestyle.
 
The Warriors finished second in the event, but scored four points while Stevenson took 11, to clinch the meet.
 
The Warriors started off the meet on fire, with sophomore McKenna Zeller (White Haven, Pa./Holy Redeemer), Kramer, junior Elena Pikounis (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and sophomore Cara Zortman (York, Pa./York Suburban) posting a time of 1:56.15 to win the 200-yard medley relay. Sophomore Mikayla Wright (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) followed with a win in the 1,650-yard freestyle (20:22.22), Zeller in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.50) and Zortman in the 50-yard freestyle (26.14), giving the Warriors a 45-14 lead before Stevenson made its comeback.
 
Freshman Jake Booth (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) and sophomore Caleb Beard (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) each won two individual events to lead the men's team, which won 10 of the 11 events in a 77-34 win.
 
Booth won both the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:41.39) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.91) and Beard won the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.77) and the 100-yard butterfly (59.00). Sophomore Dom Berardelli (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) won the 400-yard individual medley (4:49.37), junior Will Gillespie (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) the 100-yard freestyle (56.75), senior Callan Jordan (Hurley, N.Y./Western Academy of Beijing) the 100-yard backstroke (54.48) and senior Michael Panczyszyn (Linden, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) took the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.97).
 
The Warriors also swept the relays, winning the 200-yard medley with a time of 1:50.08 with the team of Booth, Panczyszyn, Berardelli and Jordan and the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:40.76 with the team of Jordan, Beard, junior Blaise Finn (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon) and Berardelli.
 
The Warriors get back in the pool on Saturday, Nov. 10, when they head to Hood College for a double-dual meet when they face Hood and Misericordia University at 2 p.m.
