WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—The Lycoming College women's swimming team won a pair of races and defeated King's (Pa.) as the Lycoming swim programs competed in a tri-match against King's and Penn State-Altoona on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 6 at the Lamade Gym Natatorium.
The Lycoming women fell 128-60 to Altoona, but defeated King's handily, 122-18, for their first win of the season.
The meet was highlighted by junior Gwyn Fox (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area), who outpaced a seven-person field in the 100-yard freestyle, turning in a winning time of 1:00.17. The 200-yard medley relay team of first year Riley Pool (Canal Winchester, Ohio / Pickerington), sophomore Madison Robbins (Wellsboro, Pa. / Wellsboro Area), senior Anasten Holbrook (Parker, Colo. / Colorado Early Colleges-Douglas County), and Elizabeth Eberz (Stroudsburg, Pa. / Stroudsburg) also claimed a win.
Though the race was swam as an exhibition, the Warriors did claim a thrilling victory in the final women's event of the day, as Lycoming came back in the final leg to win the 400-yard freestyle relay. Robbins (Wellsboro, Pa. / Wellsboro Area) and seniors Megan Klansek (Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern) and Megan Lonergan (York, Pa. / York Suburban) kept the Warriors within striking distance, then first year Vanessa Cook (Seekonk, Mass. / Seekonk) turned in an outstanding anchor leg for the victory.
In addition to her 100 freestyle win, Fox also took second in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.55, less than half a second behind the winner. Lonergan also took second in the 500-yard freestyle at 6:14.58, Robbins was second in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:25.19, and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Fox, Cook, Eberz, and Klansek battled hard and narrowly finished second in 1:58.96.
On the men's side, the Warriors tallied four runner-up finishes. Sophomore Sean Martinez (Willow Grove, Pa. / Upper Moreland) took second in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:55.02, while junior Drew Degnan (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira) did the same in the 100-yard butterfly (58:00) and first year Dominic De Mar (Phoenix, Ariz. / Horizon) was runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle (5:39.10).
The 200-yard men's medley relay team of first year Jason Ricci (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill), junior Will Eberz (Stroudsburg, Pa. / Stroudsburg), Degnan, and Martinez also took second with a mark of 1:51.87.
In the men's 1,000-yard freestyle, Penn State Altoona's Caden Traggiai set a Lamade Gym Natatorium record at 10:15.34, besting a mark of 10:16.16 that Cameron Rogers of Hood College had held since 2014.
The Warriors will now ready for finals before the Holidays, returning to action on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026 for a tri-match at Juniata College against Juniata and Wilkes, which will get underway at 1 p.m.
