YORK, Pa. – Seniors
Dan Apostolu (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and
Jilly Flynn (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) led the Lycoming College swim teams on the second day of the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships, earning two of the team's four compiled All-MAC honors at the Graham Aquatic Center on Friday night, Feb. 12.
The men's started out with a school record in the 400-yard medley relay for the fourth straight year, as the quartet of freshman
Callan Jordan (Hurley, N.Y./Western Academy of Beijing) and seniors
Trevor Endler (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick),
Josh Thomas (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) and Apostolu posted a time of 3:31.22. The quartet earned their second First Team All-MAC honors in a relay of the championships. Misericordia edged the Warriors by two seconds in the event, but the team's second-place finish is tied for the program's best with the 1965 team.
Apostolu added his second All-MAC honors of the day, as he earned a Second Team All-MAC honor for his fourth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.69. Jordan also swam in the 50-yard freestyle consolation final and finished 16
th with a time of 22.66.
Thomas and Endler both swam in the 200-yard individual medley consolation final and finished 12
th and 13
th, respectively, with times of 2:02.06 and 2:02.41. Thomas's time of 2:02.06 was a career best.
On the women's side, the team of seniors
Felicia Sloyer (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and Flynn and freshmen
Scarlet Ojeda (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) and
Emilie Kramer (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) opened up day two with an eighth-place finish and an Honorable Mention All-MAC honor in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:14.59, a season-best in the event by 14 seconds.
Flynn also received Honorable Mention All-MAC honors after posting an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.46), missing seventh place by just 0.05 seconds and setting a career-best time.
Freshman
Billie Strickler (Cogan Station, Pa./St. John Neumann) swam in the 50-yard freestyle consolation final and finished 14
th with a time of 25.94 and Sloyer placed 16
th in the 500-yard freestyle (5:35.74).
The men finish the second day of the tournament in seventh-place, trailing Hood by 19 points, while the women moved up to sixth place, holding a two-point lead over King's (Pa.) and a four-point lead over Stevenson.
The Warriors get back in the pool for the third day of the MAC Championships on Saturday, Feb. 13, with preliminary races at 10 a.m. and the finals set to begin at 6 p.m.
