BALTIMORE, Md.—The Lycoming College men's and women's swimming teams combined to set seven season bests and one personal best on the second day of the Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday, Feb. 13 at the Mangione Aquatic Center.
Through two days, both the Warriors men's and women's teams sit eighth, with Catholic holding the lead on both sides.
The day finished with the 400-yard intermediate relay, where the group of first-year Jason Ricci (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill), junior Drew Degnan (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira), junior Will Eberz (Stroudsburg, Pa. / Stroudsburg), and first-year Dominic De Mar (Phoenix, Ariz. / Horizon) turned in a time of 4:05.60, setting a season-best by 0.12 seconds.
For the women, first-year Riley Pool (Canal Winchester, Ohio / Pickerington), sophomore Madison Robbins (Wellsboro, Pa. / Wellsboro Area), junior Anasten Holbrook (Douglas, Colo. / Colorado Early Colleges-Douglas County), and junior Gwyn Fox (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area) finished the 400-yard medley relay in 4:50.86, knocking off 1.3 seconds from the previous best.
In the preliminary rounds, sophomore Sean Martinez (Willow Grove, Pa. / Upper Moreland) finished the 500-yard freestyle in 5:05.64, shaving more than three-and-a-half seconds off his season best and finished 19th. De Mar also set a personal best in the same event, finishing in 29th at 5:23.15, knocking nearly two seconds off his previous best for the year.
A pair of women's swimmers set season bests in the same event, with senior Megan Lonergan (York, Pa. / York Suburban) finishing in 25th at 6:00.35, trimming off over three seconds off her season and Pool finishing in 28th at 6:09.70, 11.5 seconds faster than her previous best. Fellow first-year Elizabeth Eberz (Stroudsburg, Pa. / Stroudsburg) finished 30th at 6:18.73, lopping nearly eight seconds off her previous personal best.
Fox finished the 50-yard freestyle 24th in a crowded field with a season-best 27.11, while Robbins shaved off nearly a quarter of a second from her season best, clocking in at 29.10.
The meet continues on Saturday, Feb. 14 with preliminary action beginning at 10 a.m. and the finals beginning at 5:30 p.m. Champions will be determined on both the men's and women's side in the 200 and 400-yard individual medleys, 100-yard butterfly, 50-yard, 200-yard, and 500-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard freestyle relay, in addition to women's 3-meter diving.
