WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – With solid performances across the board, the Lycoming College men's and women's swimming teams were able to cruise to wins in their duals on Senior Night against Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday night, Jan. 27, in Lamade Gym Natatorium, as the men notched a 133-63 win and the women notched a 133-55 win.
Seniors Dan Apostolu (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Josh Thomas (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia) both won two individual events to lead the men's team (5-5 overall), as the Warriors wrapped up their 15th consecutive season at .500 or better. Senior Felicia Sloyer (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and freshman Emilie Kramer (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) also posted two individual wins to lead the women's team (6-4 overall), which wrapped up its 15th consecutive winning season.
Apostolu posted wins in the 50- (23.15) and 100-yard freestyle (51.58) and Thomas posted wins in the 400-yard individual medley (4:45.14) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.50), as the Warrior men won eight individual events and a relay while the Flying Dutchmen (6-4) won one individual event and a relay.
Sophomore Andrew Canavan (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) and freshman Callan Jordan (Hurley, N.Y./Western Academy of Beijing) both posted a first- and second-place finish. Canavan won the 500-yard freestyle (5:14.89) and finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:54.02) while Jordan finished first in 200-yard backstroke (2:04.33) and second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.81). Senior D.J. Cunningham (McAdoo, Pa./Hazleton Area) posted a win in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:50.62) and fellow senior Trevor Endler (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.81). Senior Zak Kibler (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) finished second in the 400-yard individual medley (5:05.18) and freshman Jon Koller (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (54.20).
The men won the opening 200-yard medley relay, as Canavan, Endler, Thomas, and Jordan notched a time of 1:42.29.
Sloyer posted wins in the 200-yard backstroke (2:22.89) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:48.41) while Kramer posted wins in the 100- (58.13) and 200-yard freestyle (2:09.88)
The Warrior women won eight individual events and two relays while the Flying Dutchmen (4-6) won one event.
Seniors Jilly Flynn (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional), Hannah Bischoff (Germantown, Md./Northwest), and Tenninger Kellenbarger (Encinitas, Calif./LaCosta Canyon) all swam well as Flynn won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:42.31) while Bischoff finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle (12:56.69) and Kellenbarger finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:25.35).
Juniors Jess Wimmer (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area), Madison Walmer (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata), and Morgan Black (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) also swam well as Wimmer notched a win in the 400-yard individual medley (5:25.85) while Walmer finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.47) and Black also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (27.72).
Freshmen Rebecca Donohue (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain), Billie Strickler (Cogan Station, Pa./St. John Neumann), and Scarlet Ojeda (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) also performed well for the Warriors, as Donohue won the 1000-yard freestyle (12:48.74), Strickler won the 50-yard freestyle (26.73), and Ojeda had a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:14.70) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:38.17).
The women finished first in the opening 200-yard medley relay event, as Sloyer, Flynn, Ojeda, and Strickler notched a time of 2:00.19 and also won the 200-yard freestyle relay, as Strickler, Kramer, Black, and Walmer notched a time of 1:48.58.
The Warriors will return to the pool on Thursday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m. for the start of the MAC Championships hosted at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pa.
