WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Lycoming College men's and women's swimming teams started off their home slate with a tri-match against Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College on Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Lamade Gym Natatorium.
Susquehanna defeated Lycoming, 155-41, on the men's side and 160-32 in the women's tilt. Elizabethtown earned the win over the Warriors, by margins of 132-72 for the men and 106-64 for the women.Â
The highlight of the men's afternoon came in the final event of the day, the 400-meter freestyle relay, when a team of first year Luke Luberski (Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air), sophomore Jason Ricci (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill), junior Sean Martinez (Willow Grove, Pa. / Upper Moreland), and first year Nathan Jackson (York Haven, Pa. / Red Land) claimed victory with a time of 3:25.69, nearly six-and-a-half seconds clear of second-place Susquehanna. Jackson narrowly missed a solo win in the 100-yard freestyle, with a second-place time of 50.65 that was just over a second off the winning pace.Â
The women's side was headlined by a strong effort in the 200-yard freestyle from senior Gwyn Fox (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area), who took second with a time of 2:13.30. First year Isabella Sailor (Decorah, Iowa / Decorah) also was strong in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing a close third with a 1:09.76 mark.Â
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 31, for a home meet with Misericordia University on Halloween afternoon. The meet will begin at 12 p.m. from Lamade Natatorium.Â
