PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Sophomore Michelle Herman (Altoona, Pa./Hollidaysburg) once again led the Lycoming College cross country teams at the Cabrini Invitational, as she posted a time of 21:00.84 to finish 15th in the women’s 5,000-meter race. The men’s team put two runners in the top 50 as the men finished ninth in a field of 11 teams.
The race was held in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park at the famous Belmont Plateau, which includes the well-known Parachute Hill.
One of the most challenging courses the Warriors have run this season, the team was led by Herman’s performance while freshman Kerri Kearney (Gardners, Pa./Bermudian Springs) added a 68th place finish in a field of 82, posting a time of 27:59.15.
On the men’s side, freshman Michael Puchalski (Redlands, Calif./Redlands East Valley) led the way with a 36th-place finish on the 8,000-meter course, posting a time of 30:54.96. Senior Jacob Lewis (Mickleton, N.J./Kingsway Regional) followed by finishing 50th with a time of 32:39.64.
Junior Robert Wiechecki (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) came in 61st with a time of 34:18.23 and sophomore Kevan Guerin (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) added a time of 34:24.55 to post a 62nd-place finish. Senior Rob Holmes (Oxford, Mass./Oxford) was right behind in 66th with a time of 36:24.34 and senior Jordan Baker (St. Mary’s Pa.) added a 78th-place finish, crossing the line in 39:58.22. Senior Patrick Welteroth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) added a time of 56:53.96 to round out Lycoming’s day.
“I am really happy with how the top five are rounding out for MACs,” Lycoming coach Lesley Larson said. “Kevan Guerin has been very strong in practice and it showed today. Also, Rob Holmes put in a good performance and was strong through the first three miles despite being injured the majority of this season.”
The Warriors now have a week to prepare for the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 30 at Delaware Valley.
