CLARK, N.J.—The Lycoming College cross country team took part in the Landmark Conference championships on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Oak Ridge Park, with the women's team taking ninth place and the men finishing tenth in the event.
The women's 6K race began the day, with junior Sydney Taylor (Troy, Pa. / Troy) as the fastest Warrior, finishing in 63rd place with a time of 26:24.38, besting her time from the Landmark meet last year. Fellow junior Ella Scott (Bethlehem, Pa. / Liberty) was next in line, finishing 78th and running a time of 27:51.52.Â
Two more juniors followed for Lycoming, with Miya Knippenburg (Ellicott City, Md. / Mount Hebron) and Anna Kauffman (Lancaster, Pa. / Conestoga Valley) finishing 84th and 87th, respectively, running times of 29:08.42 and 29:21.42, both of which were career bests at the 6K length.Â
Other Warrior runners included first years, Emma Ashfield (Tamaqua, Pa. / Marian Catholic) and Caitlyn Albertson (Clearfield, Pa. / Clearfield Area) finishing 92nd and 96th, respectively, at personal bests of 30:12.21 and 34:46.98, then sophomore Sydney Cox (Felton, De. / Lake Forest) at 97th at 38:43.12 and junior Meghan Farr (Sellersville, Pa. / Pennridge) right behind her at 38.57.53 for 98th.
In the men's 8K, senior Kenneth Draper (Hughesville, Pa. / Hughesville) finished in 55th at a season-best time of 27:57.59. Next was first year Jacob Carr Towanda, Pa. / Towanda Area), who ran a personal-best 30:39.81 for 89th place. Junior Avery Rosan (Frederica, Del. / Polytech) was in 103rd at 33:02.08.
The remaining four Warriors all finishing consecutively, with juniors Connor Cornelius (Linden, Pa. / Jersey Shore), Depesh Rai (Enola, Pa. / East Pennsboro), and Thomas Andersen (Wenonah, N.J. / Deptford Township), as well as sophomore Aidan Rozetar (Shoemakersville, Pa. / Hamburg Area), all finishing at 108th-111th. Their respective times were 36:09.21, 42:38.00, 43:32.68, and 43:47.56, with Rai setting a personal best at the 8K length.Â
Moravian swept both team titles, while Greyhounds runner Tara Smurla (21:26.65) won the women's 6K race and Susquehanna's Derick Blair (24:28.85) winning the men's 8K.
Both teams will now gear up for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Saturday Nov. 15 at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pa. The women's race will be run beginning at 11 a.m., with the men to follow at noon.
