2025 Lycoming College Men's Soccer Season Preview

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - If last year wasn't the start of a new era under first-year head coach John Schwien, when the Lycoming College men's soccer team won 10 games and reached the Landmark Conference Championship tournament for a second straight year while featuring a group of four seniors, three of whom earned all-conference honors in their career, then this year, when Schwien welcomes 17 newcomers to the squad, is certainly the start of a new day for Lycoming soccer.

The Warriors return six starters from the 2024 team, which tied Scranton, 1-1, in the conference semifinal before falling in penalty kicks. Despite the large group of new faces that will need to make an immediate impact, the team returns nearly 70 percent of its goal-scoring production and also returns a sophomore goalkeeper that played all but one half in 20 games last year.

I am really excited to see what this team can do. We have a lot of experienced players that did well in a new system last year and we also have a large group of incoming players that are going to challenge for a lot of playing time immediately. This group has shown the ability early on to be able to play with anyone, but we need to stay focused and hungry for 90 minutes. If we can do that, I think we will be able to withstand a grueling Landmark Conference schedule.

Senior Christian Woobay returns to head up the Warrior attack after earning all-region honors in 2024. The forward posted 10 goals and six assists for a total of 26 points, becoming the first Warrior to reach 25 points since 2015. The 6-2 forward finished second in the Landmark Conference in points, fifth in assists, and tied for second in both goals and game-winning goals (5).

Senior Owen Magee also returns after starting all 20 games last season, posting two goals and an assist. The Selinsgrove product has 11 goals and five assists in his career.

Sophomores Daniel Marshall and Barok Zeleke also return to the position and sophomore Nick Ritter comes to the team after he played the 2023 season at Lock Haven University, where he had two goals and an assist. First-year Matthew Sweeney will also work for time at the position.

After the graduation of two-time all-conference selection Joe Bamfo, the Warriors will remake the midfield this year with the addition of 10 first-year players and a transfer.

Junior Aidan Stillman returns after earning Second Team All-Landmark Conference honors, posting four goals and three assists in his sophomore season and senior Thomas Geyer also returns to a starting spot in the midfield after posting a goal and three assists.

Sophomore Jake Keeney, who played in all 20 games and scored one goal in his rookie year, is the only other Warrior that returns to the position. Sophomore Carter Block comes to the Warriors after a year at Division II Salem University, where he scored three goals and added an assist, and will be joined by first-year newcomers Alex Sincevich, Max Kocher, Gavin Modecki, Kevin Kouassi, Josh Anderson, Vinny Tartaglia, Leandro Cruz, Tyler Ruch, Rezi Tebidze and Sam Moscheni, as they all work for immediate playing time.

With the loss of two-time all-region selection Kenny Clapp along with Christian Barnes in the backfield, the Warriors will look for seniors Chris Djadja and Cole Sharpnack to plug the gaps.

Djadja started all 20 games in the backfield as a junior and Sharpnack started eight while appearing in 14 games. Sophomores Ethan Wentzel and Brayden Brown also give the team some added experience along with senior Ken Kouassi.

Junior Andrew Barclay joins the team after starting 12 games at Division II Bloomfield in 2024 and he will be joined by first-year newcomer teammates Jacob Wojciechowski, Xavier Dandridge and Brayden Egger as they look to break into the lineup.

Sophomore Jace Bennett stepped into the starting goalkeeper position as a rookie, playing 1775 minutes in goal and allowing just 0.86 goals per game. He won 10 games in net and pitched eight shutouts during his rookie campaign.
Senior Sheadon Ludwig will serve as Bennett's back-up. Ludwig has appeared in two games in his career, making one save.
