Warriors draw up shutout with Misericordia

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Allowing just six shots in the game and two on goal, the Lycoming College men's soccer team notched its first shutout of the season in a 0-0 draw with Misericordia University in non-conference action at UPMC Field on Wednesday night, Sept. 3.

The Warriors (0-2-1 overall) outshot the Cougars (1-0-1 overall), 12-6, and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks, while the Cougars held a 12-10 advantage in fouls.

Lycoming had several close calls with the net, including a second minute shot by first-year Leandro Cruz (Nottingham, Md./Loyola Blakefield) on a breakaway that just went over the crossbar and the team made the Misericordia keeper make three saves in the last 20 minutes, with senior Christian Woobay (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) taking two of the shots.

Sophomore Jace Bennett (Falling Waters, W.Va./Spring Mills) notched two saves in the shutout. Santino Jannotte stopped five shots for the Cougars.

The Warriors are back at home on Saturday, Sept. 6, when they host Ursinus College at 5:30 p.m. at UPMC Field.
