WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - As the Lycoming College men's swim team prepares for its second appearance at the Landmark Conference Championships, the team was selected to finish ninth in Landmark Conference Pre-Championship Poll, the conference announced on Thursday, Feb. 6.
Eight-time defending champion Catholic earned the top slot unanimously with 80 points, ranking ahead of the University of Scranton (70), Drew (69), Elizabethtown (57) and Susquehanna (53) in the top five placements. Wilkes (39), Juniata (32), Goucher (22), Lycoming (17) and Moravian (11) rounded out the poll.
First-year Sean Martinez (Willow Grove, Pa. / Upper Moreland) ranks 17th in the Landmark Conference in the 1650-yard freestyle (19:13.28), 25th in the 500-yard freestyle (5:10.12), 27th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.15) and 29th in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:32.28).
Martinez received his first Landmark Conference Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week award on Tuesday, Feb. 4, after placing first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.69) against Moravian University and contributing to the men's relay efforts.
Sophomore Drew Degnan (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira) sits 32nd in the Landmark Conference in the 100-yard butterfly (56.84). This season, Degnan also set a personal best in the 50-yard freestyle (23.32).
The Landmark Conference Championships begins Thursday, Feb. 13, and runs through Sunday, Feb. 16, at Mangione Aquatic Center on Loyola University's campus in Baltimore, Md. The championship kicks off with diving preliminaries at 4:30 p.m., and the 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay events begin at 6 p.m.
Ticket prices on Thursday cost $10 for adults (18 and older) and $5 for minors (ages 10-17). The tickets for Friday through Sunday cost $25 for adults and $15 for minors. Children under nine years old, as well as Landmark Conference students and faculty with valid institutional IDs, receive free admission.
