BALTIMORE, Md. - Sophomore Drew Degnan (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira), first-year Sean Martinez (Willow Grove, Pa. / Upper Moreland) and first-year Madison Robbins (Wellsboro, Pa. / Wellsboro Area) led the Lycoming College swimming teams by competing in consolation final events to highlight a set of 10 season-bests at the Landmark Conference Championships on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Mangione Aquatic Center on Loyola University's campus.
In the men's 200-yard freestyle, Martinez swam a 1:51.67 time in the preliminary event, improving on his previous best (1:52.98) from the Electric City Invitational in November. Martinez finished the preliminaries in 15th place, earning him a spot in the consolation finals. He finished third in his heat for the evening finals with a time of 1:50.04, placing 11th in the competition.
Degnan finished the 100-yard butterfly in 15th-place with a time of 56.46, which was a 0.11 second drop from his previous personal-best at the Electric City Invitational earlier in the season. In the evening finals, Degnan finished with a 56.43, which placed him in 16th place in the competition.
Sophomore Tyler Bronson (Endicott, N.Y. / Union-Endicott) also competed in the 200-yard freestyle, improving his best time by 6.30 seconds with a 2:38.98 finish.
Senior Brian Hulsey (Annapolis, Md. / Annapolis Area Christian) swam a 1:17.86 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Degnan, Martinez, Hulsey and Bronson notched a time of 1:43.55 to take ninth.
All Warrior women set personal-best times on the third day of competition. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Robbins clocked a personal-best time of 1:15.45, finishing in 16th place. Robbins recorded her previous best (1:16.95) at the Electric City Invitational, dropping her time by 1.5 seconds. She swam a 1:16.06 finish in the event final, finishing 16th.
Sophomore Londyn Snyder (Halifax, Pa. / Halifax Area) also competed in the 100-yard breaststroke with a personal-best 1:18.05 finish, improving 0.71 seconds from her time at the Electric City Invitational (1:18.76). In addition, Snyder swam in the 100-yard butterfly preliminaries with a 1:13.99.
Sophomore Gwyn Fox (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area) recorded a personal-best time of 2:08.96 in the 200-yard freestyle, improving by 2.54 seconds since the Electric City Invitational. Junior Megan Lonergan (York, Pa. / York Suburban) followed suit in the 200-yard freestyle, posting a time of 2:11.53, which was 1.66 seconds faster than her previous best.
Sophomore Megan Klansek (Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern) recorded a 17th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:11.64, surpassing her personal-best from the Electric City Invitational by two seconds. Sophomore Anasten Holbrook (Parker, Colo. / Colorado Early Colleges-Douglas County) followed up with a time of 1:17.18. Holbrook improved her personal best from the Electric City Invitational (1:20.20) by three seconds.
To cap the day, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Fox, Lonergan, Robbins and Klansek took 10th with a time of 1:50.42, a drop of 1.66 seconds.
The final day of the Landmark Conference Championships is Sunday, Feb. 16, at the Mangione Aquatic Center on Loyola University's campus in Baltimore, Md. Preliminary competition will begin at 10 a.m. in the 200-yard backstroke, the 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard butterfly. Special Olympics events will occur at 12 p.m. The 1,650-yard freestyle will follow up at 2 p.m. before swimmers return for final swims at 5 p.m.
