BALTIMORE, Md. - First-year Sean Martinez (Willow Grove, Pa. / Upper Moreland) led the Lycoming College men's swimming team by finishing 16th in the 500-yard freestyle at the Landmark Conference Championships on Friday, Feb. 14, at Mangione Aquatic Center on Loyola University's campus.
Martinez placed 16th in the 500-yard freestyle preliminary event, finishing with a personal-best time of 5:04.79. He improved his season-time by 5.33 seconds. Martinez followed up in the 500-yard consolation final with a 5:08.45 to take 16th in the event.
Sophomore Drew Degnan (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira) recorded a 23.24 finish in the 50-yard freestyle, placing 25th in the event. Degnan surpassed his previous-best in the 50-yard freestyle (23.32), which he set at the Electric City Invitational.
Senior Brian Hulsey (Annapolis, Md. / Annapolis Area Christian) posted a personal-best time of 25.92 in the 50-yard freestyle and sophomore Tyler Bronson (Endicott, N.Y. / Union-Endicott) followed suit with a 31.59 finish. Hulsey's time dropped 0.84 seconds and Bronson's time improved by 1.94 seconds. Hulsey set his previous best at the Electric City Invitational with a 26.76 finish, which he improved by almost a full second. Bronson also set a personal record in the event, beating the 30.75 time that he swam in a dual against King's College (Pa.).
Martinez, Hulsey, Degnan and Bronson finished the 400-yard medley relay with a 4:30.45, taking eighth place.
For the women, junior Megan Lonergan (York, Pa. / York Suburban) placed 23rd in the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:49.12 finish. She secured a personal-best finish by nearly seven seconds, surpassing the 5:56.03 time set at the Electric City Invitational. Sophomore Gwyn Fox (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area) also competed in the 500-yard freestyle with a personal-best time of 5:52.18, which put her in 24th place with a 12.74 second drop.
Sophomore Anasten Holbrook (Parker, Colo. / Colorado Early Colleges-Douglas County) finished the 200-yard individual medley preliminaries with a time of 2:56.37, improving by 1.77 seconds. First-year Madison Robbins (Wellsboro, Pa. / Wellsboro Area) clocked a time of 27.33 in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing 27th in the event. Robbins set a personal-record time by more than one second. Sophomore Megan Klansek (Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern) followed in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.91. Klansek also set a personal best by improving nearly a second since Lycoming's dual against Penn St.-Altoona.
Klansek, Robbins, Snyder and Fox finished the 400-yard medley relay with a 5.36 second improvement, clocking a time of 4:39.30, to take 10th.
The four-day Landmark Conference Championships runs through Sunday, Feb. 16, at the Mangione Aquatic Center on Loyola University's campus in Baltimore, Md. The competition on Saturday, Feb. 15, kicks off at 10 a.m. with preliminaries in the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke. 1-meter preliminary diving competitions will occur at 1 p.m. before the swimmers return at 5:30 p.m. for event finals.
The tickets for Friday through Sunday cost $25 for adults and $15 for minors. Children under nine years old, as well as Landmark Conference students and faculty with valid institutional IDs, receive free admission.
