Warriors close Electric City Invitational

SCRANTON, Pa.—Junior Drew Degnan (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira) picked up a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly to highlight the final day of competition as the Lycoming College swimming team finished the Electric City Invitational at the Marywood University Aquatics Center on Sunday, Oct. 23.

Lycoming's men finished in fifth place with 285 points, while the women's side took fifth as well, scoring 282 points. Wilkes University won the men's meet, while Lock Haven was victorious for the women.

Degnan was the highest-placing Warrior of the day, taking second in the 200-yard butterfly as he turned in a mark of 2:12.95, the best recorded time in the event for his collegiate career.

The other notable result of the day for the men was the 400-meter freestyle relay, in which Degnan, first year Jason Ricci (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill), junior Will Eberz (Stroudsburg, Pa /Stroudsburg), and sophomore Sean Martinez (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) finished sixth with a time of 3:37.92, the quickest time the Warriors have turned in for that particular event since the 2022-23 season.

For the women's squad, junior Gwyn Fox (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) was the day's top performer, finishing a tightly-contested 100-yard freestyle in 59.24, a time that took seventh place, but was less than three seconds behind the winner in a 20-person field. First year Vanessa Cook (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) took 10th in the same event with a mark of 1:03.17.

First-year Riley Pool (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Pickerington) and senior Anasten Holbrook (Parker, Colo./Colorado Early Colleges) took eighth (2:39.10) and ninth (2:40.01) in the 200-yard backstroke for the Warriors and sophomore Madison Robbins (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) also took 10th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:57.97).

The Warriors' women's team also took a respectable seventh in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with Fox, senior Megan Klansek (Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern), first year Elizabeth Eberz (Stroudsburg, Pa. / Stroudsburg), and senior Megan Lonergan (York, Pa. / York Suburban) clocking in at 4:13.11.

The Warriors will return to the pool on Saturday, Dec. 6 for a meet with Penn State-Altoona and Kings (Pa.), the final home meet of 2025 for Lycoming swimming. The meet will get underway at 1 p.m. from the Lamade Gym Natatorium.
