Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—A thrilling comeback in #1 doubles, plus a pair of double bagels in singles action, were instrumental as the Lycoming College men's tennis team picked up their second straight victory, 6-1 over Thiel College on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
Lycoming (2-2) started the day by sweeping doubles play over Thiel (0-1), with sophomores Kayvan Shams (Williamsport, Pa. / South Williamsport) and Logan Hammond (Williamsport, Pa. / Loyalsock Township) winning their match 6-2. Senior Josh Niedert (Reading Pa. / Oley Valley) and first year Josh Myers (Hughesville, Pa. / Hughesville) fell behind by three games, but rallied back for a 7-5 victory.
In singles action, Myers won the longest and most thrilling match of the afternoon, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4) in the No. 2 match, while Shams swept No. 3 singles 7-5, 6-0. The final two singles matches were both one-sided, with senior Luke Taylor (Williamsport, Pa. / Word of Life Bible Institute) winning No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0 and Hammond doing the same in No. 5 singles.
Having now won consecutive matches for the first time since Sept. 19 and 30, 2023, the Warriors will search for a three-match winning streak tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 2 at home against the University of Scranton in Landmark Conference play. The match will begin at 3 p.m. at the Brandon Park Tennis Courts.
