WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Junior Kayvan Shams (Williamsport, Pa. / South Williamsport) won his seventh straight singles match, the longest winning streak for a Lycoming College men's tennis player since 2013 as he cruised two a straight-set singles win, as the team fell, 6-1, in a non-conference match to Penn State Altoona on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at Brandon Park.
Shams breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles, staying undefeated in dual singles matches on the season at 7-0. In No. 3 singles, first-year Teli Bobotas (South Williamsport, Pa. / Montoursville Area) bounced back from a 2-6 first set to win the second 6-2 and force a superset tiebreaker.
Penn State Altoona moved to 2-1 while Lycoming dropped to 0-5 on the campaign.
The Warriors will be right back in action on Thursday, Oct. 1, when they travel to King's (Pa.) for a non-conference match. The match will get underway from Wilkes-Barre, Pa. at 3 p.m.
