WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – First-year
Kayvan Shams (Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) and senior
Luke Taylor (Williamsport, Pa./Word of Life Bible Institute) advanced into the finals in singles play and finals in doubles play of their respective flights to lead the Lycoming College men's tennis team during the first day at the King's Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Kirby Park.
Taylor and Shams will kick off their second day at the tournament on Sunday at 9 a.m. by facing King's Jacob Nelson and Brendan Turowski in the finals of the No. 3 doubles flight. The Lycoming duo have yet to play at the tournament, as they received a bye to the semifinals and added a walkover win over Wilkes to make the championship.
Shams will also face Chase Miller of FDU-Florham in a No. 5 singles semifinal, as he downed Elizabethtown's Sam Langer, 6-0, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.
Taylor will face John Curtin of Manhattanville in a No. 6 singles semifinal, as he beat King's Zackary Bedwell, 6-4, 6-3.
