BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior Cathryn Brought (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) finished as the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle, posting the fourth-fastest time in program history at 24.87, to lead the Lycoming College swimming teams on the second day at the Landmark Conference Championships on Friday, Feb. 16 at Mangione Aquatic Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
Brought posted her career-best time in the finals, finishing behind Drew's Amira Ahmad Hadri, who posted a 24.51 to win the title. Brought was just a tenth of a second faster than Scranton's Gigi Baquerizo (24.94) and Susquehanna's Ashley Derrick (24.98). She entered the finals seeded second after posting a 24.95 in the preliminary race.
The team of sophomore Megan Lonergan (York, Pa./York Suburban), senior Courtney Chapman (Warminster, Pa./William Tenant), first-year Londyn Snyder (Halifax, Pa./Halifax Area) and Brought finished seventh in the 400-yard medley relay with a 4:36.80, dropping more than half a minute on their seed time.
Lycoming is sixth on the women's side with 85 points after the second day while Scranton leads the championships with 271 points, ahead of Catholic (206) and Drew (194).
Senior Eliot Keith (New Ringgold, Pa./ Blue Mountain) finished 15th in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:04.17, to get the men's swim team on the board, as they finished the day in eighth place with two points. Keith finished 13th in the preliminaries with a 2:03.83 time, more than five seconds faster than his previous best.
The Lycoming men are in eighth with two points after Friday. Drew leads the championships with 317 points and Catholic is close behind with 316.5.
Four other Warriors posted career-bests in the prelims on Friday morning. First-year Gwyn Fox (Altoona, Pa./ Altoona Area) and Lonergan notched career-best times in the 500-yard freestyle, with Fox finishing with a 5:47.64 time and Lonergan in 5:49.42. First-year Anasten Holbrook (Parker, Colo./ Colorado Early Colleges-Douglas County) also had a career-best 2:49.93 in the 200-yard individual medley and first-year Drew Degnan (Elmira, N.Y./ Elmira) had a career-best 23.41 in the 50-yard freestyle.
The Warriors will be back in action for the third day of the Landmark Conference Championships starting at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17. The 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke will be competed in the preliminaries, while women's 1 meter-diving and the 200-yard freestyle relay will also compete during the finals session that starts at 6 p.m.
