Brown earns Academic All-MAC honors

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa – Lycoming College junior Katherine Brown (Glenside, Pa./Abington) was named to the 2022 Academic All-Middle Atlantic Conference Women's Swimming Team announced by the conference office, on Thursday, June 30. Brown was one of 11 athletes selected to the team and one of 92 winter athletes recognized for their academic and athletic success.

Brown cleaned up awards this season being named the MAC's David B Eavenson Swimmer of the Year. She was also recognized as a Scholar All-American by the Collegiate Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as well as Lycoming College's Most Outstanding Female Athlete.

She became the first women's swimmer in 38 years at Lycoming College to compete in an NCAA Championship, where she finished 17th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.38.

During the MAC Championships, Brown broke several records, including the MAC record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.88 that qualified her for the NCAA Championships and secured a MAC title. She won her second title in the MAC Championships with a time of 2:23.03 in the 200-yard breaststroke, which also set a school record. Brown added another school record in the championships with a time of 24.56 in the in the 50-yard freestyle.

She also set pool records during the season at Lamade Gymnasium Natatorium in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.48 and the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:23.63.

Brown was also recognized as the MAC Swimmer of the Week on six occasions, becoming the first athlete in Lycoming history to be recognized that many times in a season.

The Winter Academic All-MAC teams recognize the top student-athletes both in the classroom and in athletic competition during the 2022 spring semester. The MAC sports information directors nominate and vote on the Academic All-MAC teams, giving 50 percent weight on both academic success and athletic success. A student-athlete must have a spring semester grade-point average (GPA) of 3.20 or higher to be eligible for the award.

The Warrior men finished 7-3 overall under second-year coach Andrew Dragunas, finishing ninth at the MAC Championships. The Warrior women finished 3-7 overall and 11th in the conference.
