BALTIMORE, Md. — The Lycoming College men's and women's swimming teams competed on the first day of the Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, dropping season-best times significantly in three of the four relay races, on Thursday night, Feb. 12 at the Mangione Athletic Center.
The Warriors competed in the first four races of the meet: the men's and women's 200-yard medley and the 800-yard freestyle relay. After the first day, both teams are in eighth place, while the Catholic University of America leads on both the men's and women's side.
On the men's side, the Warriors took ninth in both races, with first year Jason Ricci (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill), juniors Will Eberz (Stroudsburg, Pa. / Stroudsburg) and Drew Degnan (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira), and sophomore Sean Martinez (Willow Grove, Pa. / Upper Moreland) turning in a time of 1:47.89 in the 200-yard medley relay. Martinez, Degnan, Ricci, and first year Dominic De Mar (Phoenix, Ariz. / Horizon) finished the 800-yard freestyle relay in 7:44.16, a time drop of 9.34 seconds.
For the women, first year Riley Pool (Canal Winchester, Ohio / Pickerington), sophomore Madison Robbins (Wellsboro, Pa. / Wellsboro Area), junior Anasten Holbrook (Douglas, Colo. / Colorado Early Colleges-Douglas County), and junior Gwyn Fox (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area) finished the 200-yard medley relay in 2:10.09, a drop of a quarter-second. Fox, senior Megan Lonergan (York, Pa. / York Suburban), first year Vanessa Cook (Seekonk, Mass. / Seekonk), and Pool finished the 800-yard freestyle relay in 9:09.33, an impressive drop of 17.65 seconds.
Day two of the Landmark Conference Championships will get underway on Friday, Feb. 13, with preliminary races beginning at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 6 p.m. Conference champions will be determined in the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, the 50-yard freestyle, 3-meter diving for the men, 1-meter diving for the women, and the 400-yard medley relay.
