WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Two student-athletes stood out for their dramatic improvement between 2019-20 and now to earn Lycoming College's Sol "Woody" Wolf Award given to the college's most improved junior student-athlete –
Bella Green (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) from the women's soccer team and
Cole Senior (Middletown, Pa./Middletown Area) from the football team.
Bella Green was an all-state defender at South Williamsport Area High School. When she came to Lycoming, however, head coach
Kenny Fern saw her athleticism filling a role in the team's midfield. Bella scored two game-winning goals in her first year in 2019. This year, though, she found her footing, scoring two goals and getting two assists in the season opener against Gwynedd Mercy. She only got better from there, scoring in five straight games later in September and with a pair of assists against King's in October, she became the first women's soccer player in program history to post 10 goals and 10 assists in the same season, finishing with 12 goals and 10 assists. She also earned First Team All-MAC Freedom honors.
Cole Senior was an all-state defensive lineman at Middletown Area High School, helping his team to the state championship game three times. An undersized lineman at 5 foot 9 and 215 pounds, Cole had six tackles in eight games during his first year in 2019. He had seven tackles, including two for a loss, in his second game this season. A position change, from the defensive line down to linebacker, benefited Senior, as he notched at least five tackles in nine of the team's 11 games, finishing with 80 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and six saves. He made his impact felt in every game, maybe no more so than when he had two sacks and 11 tackles in the 31-23 win over Ursinus in the MAC-Centennial Bowl Series. Accolades also poured in for Senior – First Team All-MAC and Second Team D3football.com All-Region One.
