Rob Smith (Middleburg, Pa./Selinsgrove) led the Lycoming College men's tennis team with a hard-earned singles win at No. 2 singles, but Lycoming fell to league-leading Messiah, 8-1, on Tuesday, April 18, at Bruce Henry Park.

Smith won his 11
th singles match of the year in one of his closest matches of the season, beating 2016 First Team All-MAC Commonwealth selection Connor Graybeal, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (8), 10-6. The 11 singles wins are tied for seventh in school history, with Pat Malloy (1964, 11-0) and Cody Heffner (2010, 11-3), as he improved to 11-6.

Messiah (7-5 overall, 5-0 MAC Commonwealth) was able to sweep doubles play and won five singles bouts though, pushing Lycoming to 5-10 overall and 1-4 in the MAC Commonwealth. Senior
Evan Bennetch (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Bible Baptist School) nearly picked up a win at No. 4 singles, falling to Austin Warren, 1-6, 6-4, 11-9.
