Rob Smith (Middleburg, Pa./Selinsgrove) and freshman
Mitch Wheary (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) each picked up singles wins to lead the Lycoming College men's tennis team, but Stevenson University used a sweep of doubles play to buoy itself to a 7-2 MAC Commonwealth win on Saturday afternoon, April 1 at the Greenspring Tennis Courts.

Smith improved to 8-4 in singles action this year, as he posted a hard-earned 7-5, 7-6 (3) win over Wornden Ly at No. 2 singles, while Wheary moved to 6-5 on the year with a 4-6, 6-4, 11-9 superset tiebreaker win over Peter Appiah at No. 4.

Stevenson, which finished second in the conference in 2016, swept doubles play, including a 9-7 win at No. 2 and added four singles wins to clinch the win.

The Warriors fell to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in the MAC Commonwealth and Stevenson improved to 2-8 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

The Warriors get back in action on Sunday, April 2, when they host Elmira College at 1 p.m. in a non-conference match at Bruce Henry Park.
