WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – First, senior
Seth Lansberry (Klingerstown, Pa./Line Mountain) became Lycoming College's all-time winningest wrestler and then 24
th-year head coach
Roger Crebs became Lycoming College's all-time winningest wrestling coach, highlighting a perfect day for the Warrior grapplers to win Group D in the round robin portion of the 29
th-annual Budd Whitehill Duals at Lamade Gym on Friday, Jan. 13.
Â
The Warriors (14-2 overall) rolled past Wesleyan, 32-14, Millikin, 31-17, and Waynesburg, 27-16, to reach the semifinals of the tournament for the second time in three years and the 10
th time in program history. The Warriors will open wrestling on Saturday, Jan. 14, against eighth-ranked Messiah at 10:30 a.m. on Mat 2 in Lamade Gym, with the winner facing the winners of the match on Mat 3 between Wis.-Eau Claire and 25
th-ranked York (Pa.) at 1:30 p.m. on Mat 2. The losers will face off on Mat 3 in the third-place match.
Â
Crebs surpassed the mark of 376 wins accumulated by Budd Whitehill from 1956-93 as the program's first coach. Crebs, who wrestled for Whitehill from 1984-86, has compiled a 377-127-2 record since taking over for Whitehill in 1993, leading the team to 22 winning dual meet seasons and he has coached 22 All-Americans and four national champions.
Â
"I'm tired, I'm hot, my throat hurts," Crebs said at the end of the day of the tournament named for his predecessor. "We're excited and we wrestled hard. The big picture comes tomorrow and we have to keep wrestling and battling."
Â
After that Crebs stopped to give instructions to wrestlers as they scurried to clean up an emptying Lamade Gym before the second day of the tournament Saturday.
Â
"You have to be here a long time to get that many wins," Crebs said. "The alums and everything they have done – pitching together to raise money for a full-time assistant. When you look around today, Al Fluman and
Sean Reese are both here. We have a lot of guys through the years that have stayed with me. A lot of guys who have graduated and stayed in the area stayed with me and coached with me. We had our own system. We really didn't have a lot of guys from outside the program come in to help until the late 2000s."
Â
Lansberry, the nation's second-ranked 149-pounder, meanwhile, broke Royce Eyer's mark of 127 wins, set from 1997-01, as he posted three wins to improve to 25-0 on the season and 129-21 in his career. He broke the record with his school-record 19
th technical fall, a 16-0 win over Millikin's Cooper Collings.
Â
"It's just another stepping stone to my main goal, which is winning a national title," Lansberry said. "It's awesome, but that isn't what I want out of this season. I want to go out there and dominate and beat people. This is just a bonus."
Â
Lansberry added on Crebs' accomplishments: "He really has molded me into the man I am today. I was with my brother (Nick) and Coach Marsh in high school. They are awesome and amazing guys, but Coach Crebs has helped me get to the next level. How he pushes you and makes you go the extra mile is what makes me feel like I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for him as my coach."
Â
The Warriors string together four straight wins to take control of the match against Waynesburg to clinch a spot in the semifinals with the 27-16 win.
Â
After Waynesburg won by pin, the Warriors benefitted from a forfeit at 133. Lansberry got the Warriors going with a 4-0 win over Shaun Wilson for his 129
th career win at 149 and freshman
Hadyn Swartwood (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) followed with an 18-2 technical fall of Zach Mackall at 157 to give the team its first lead, 14-9. Senior

Â

th dual meet win.
Â
Sophomore
Joe Santomarco (Manlapan, N.J./Manlapan) started the run by outlasting Brandon Critchfield, 4-3 before Lansberry set the school's wins mark with a 16-0 technical fall over Cooper Collings at 149.
Â
Swartwood followed with a quick takedown and cradle to pin Noah Justi in just 14 seconds and Barger posted a 6-1 win over Jake Tisza at 165. Conrad clinched the win with a third-period takedown and 40-second rideout of
Brandon Conrad to post a 4-3 decision and give Lycoming a 26-11 lead. Ogden added the final points with a 17-0 technical fall over Evan Betz at 197 pounds.
