Zackary Collevechio (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) posted a three-set win at No. 5 singles to help the Lycoming College men's tennis team edge out Summit University, 5-4, in the spring opener on Thursday afternoon, March 17, at the Murray Courts.
Collevechio posted two wins on the day, as did his sophomore partner
Rob Smith (Middleburg, Pa./Selinsgrove), to lift the Warriors (3-3 overall) to the win, as the team reached three wins for the first time since 2012-13.
Lycoming swept the doubles portion of the match to build a 3-0 lead, with the team of sophomore
Alhoun Lundy (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) and freshman
Zachary High (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) posting an 8-2 win over Noah Moore and Landon Morey at No. 3 to kick off the scoring. Smith and Collevechio added an 8-4 win over Benjamin Adam and Ryan Landry at No. 2 and junior
Bryce Jones (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) and senior
Joe Amento (Ambler, Pa./Abington Friends School) gutted out a huge 9-7 win over Jason Muller and Spencer Fountain.
The Warriors added a fourth point when Smith downed Muller, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 2 singles, before the Defenders (0-2 overall) rallied back with wins at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles to tie the match. Collevechio, though, came through with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 win over Moore to ice Lycoming's third win.
Lycoming will get back on the court on Tuesday, March 29, when they head to Alfred for a 3 p.m. non-conference matchup.
