WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Despite winning eight of 13 races, the Lycoming College men's swimming team fell victim to the depth of Messiah College, 125-118, while the three-time defending Middle Atlantic Conference champion Messiah women's swimming team posted a 158-85 win in dual meet action at Lamade Gym Natatorium on Saturday, Nov. 19.

The men's meet came down to the 200-yard freestyle relay, where Messiah used the final two legs to pull away with a win in 1:30.69 while Lycoming finished second in 1:34.10, despite a strong second leg by freshman
Devyn Goda (Reading, Pa./Reading) that brought the Warriors (1-5 overall, 1-4 MAC) within half a second of the Falcons (2-4 overall, 1-2 MAC), but the Falcons' 13 earned points from the relays helped it overcome a 114-112 deficit heading into the race.

The Warriors won five of the first six races, led by sophomore
Callan Jordan (Hurley, N.Y./Western Academy of Beijing), who won the 50-yard backstroke (25.00) and the 50-yard freestyle (22.73) during the run. Junior
Andrew Canavan (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.43) and Goda won the 50-yard breaststroke (26.55) during the run, while the 200-yard medley relay team of Jordan, Goda, freshman
Will Gillespie (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and freshman
Theo Gouskos (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) also won in 1:40.16.

Jordan also won the 100-yard backstroke (52.78), coming up two-hundredths shy of the school-record of 52.76 set by Steve Hawley in 2005 with the fasted time in the MAC this year. Goda also was impressive late in the meet, winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.20, less than half a second from the school-record and the fastest time in the MAC this year.

After Messiah won two races, Canavan won the 400-yard individual medley in 4:33.71 to help Lycoming head into the final event with a lead.

The Falcons were able to win the meet thanks to scoring 78 points thanks to second to fifth place finishes, while Lycoming scored 74 thanks to first-place finishes.

On the women's side, Messiah (5-1 overall, 3-0 MAC) won nine of the 13 races to post a 158-85 win.

Lycoming (1-5 overall, 1-4 MAC) was paced once again by sophomore
Emilie Kramer (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area), who won three races thanks to a time of 32.85 in the 50-yard breaststroke, a time of 26.33 in the 50-yard freestyle and 1:12.22 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Senior
Morgan Black (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) added a time of 59.77 to win the 100-yard freestyle, while freshman
Michaela Thode (Anderson, Calif./West Valley) finished second in the 50-yard backstroke in 32.20.

The Warriors get back in the pool on Saturday, Dec. 3, when they host Wilkes in Middle Atlantic Conference dual at 1 p.m. in Lamade Gym Natatorium.
