Warriors sweep Colonels

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – For the second straight day, the Lycoming College swimming team swept a dual meet, downing Wilkes University, 148-100, on the women's side, and 162-72, on the men's side, in Middle Atlantic Conference action at the Wilkes-Barre Catholic Youth Center on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 8.
 
Freshman Scarlet Ojeda (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) led the women's squad with three individual wins, as she finished with winning times in the 200-yard butterfly (2:31.06), 100-yard butterfly (1:06.46) and the 400-yard individual medley (5:12.26).
 
The women won 12 of the 14 events to improve to 3-1 overall, with freshman Rebecca Donohue (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) adding wins in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:21.07) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:59.99) and senior Felicia Sloyer (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) notched wins in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.85) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:20.95).
 
Four others also added race wins in junior Jess Wimmer (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area) (200-yard freestyle, 2:11.10), freshman Emilie Kramer (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) (100-yard breaststroke, 1:13.68), junior Morgan Black (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) (100-yard freestyle, 1:00.66) and senior Jilly Flynn (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) (100-yard breaststroke, 2:40.43).
 
The team also notched a win in the 200-yard medley relay, with Sloyer, Kramer, Ojeda and Wimmer notching a time of 2:01.57.
 
The men improved to 2-2 overall while winning all 14 events, with senior Josh Thomas (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) and senior Dan Apostolu (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) each leading the team with three individual wins for the second straight day.
 
Thomas notched wins in the 100-yard butterfly (53.71), 200-yard butterfly (2:09.56) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:43.37). Apostolu added wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.69), 100-yard freestyle (51.14) and 50-yard freestyle (22.79).
 
Senior D.J. Cunningham (McAdoo, Pa./Hazleton Area) added two wins for the second straight day, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:23.50) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:46.89) and freshman Callan Jordan (Hurley, N.Y./Western Academy of Beijing) posted wins in the 100-yard backstroke (57.68) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.74).
 
Senior Trevor Endler (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) posted a win in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.03) and junior Joshua Cram (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) added a win in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:38.17).
 
The Warriors also added wins in both relay races, with the 200-yard medley relay team of Jordan, Endler, Thomas and sophomore Craig Weeks (Wind Gap, Pa./Pen Argyl) posting a time of 1:45.46 and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Apostolu, Weeks, Jordan and Endler notching a time of 1:35.32.
 
The Warriors get back in the pool on Saturday, Nov. 14, when they head to Misericordia for a 1 p.m. MAC meet.
