Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Four Lycoming College men's tennis players won both their singles and doubles matches, as it posted the first win over Penn College in program history, 8-1, on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 7, at the Penn College Tennis Courts.
The Warriors (2-3 overall) reversed an 8-1 Penn College win in 2014 and beat the crosstown rival for the first time since an 8-1 win in 1972, when the school was known at Williamsport Area Community College.
Lycoming swept all three doubles matches, with junior
Evan Bennetch (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Bible Baptist School) and senior
Joe Amento (Ambler, Pa./Abington Friends School) coming back from a 3-2 deficit to win 8-5 against Matt Kuniegel and Sean Magladery at No. 2 doubles to kick off the wins.
At No. 3, senior
Zackary Collevechio (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) and sophomore
Zachary High (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) withstood a late rally from Jake Pichola and Seth Strickland to post a 9-8 (4) win. Shortly after, junior
Bryce Jones (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) and sophomore
Rob Smith (Middleburg, Pa./Selinsgrove) notched a 9-8 (3) win over Christopher Morrin and Benjamin Leibig.
In singles play, Jones notched a 6-3, 6-1 win over Leibig at No. 1, Bennetch added a 6-2, 6-0 win over Magladery at No. 3, Smith posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kuniegel at No. 4 and Collevechio posted a 6-1, 6-4 win over Pichola at No. 5. Junior
Son Phan (Hanoi, Vietnam/High School for Gifted Students) added an 8-0 win over Strickland at No. 6 to round out Lycoming's eight points.
The Warriors get back on the court at the MAC Individual Championships on Saturday, Oct. 17 and Sunday, Oct. 18, at Wilkes-Barre, Pa.'s Kirby Park.
