Mifsud reaches 40 singles wins, but Warriors fall to Crusaders

READING, Pa. – Senior Jason Mifsud (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) became the first Lycoming College men’s tennis player in at least 40 years to reach 40 career wins, but the Warriors fell to Alvernia, 7-2, in a Commonwealth Conference match on Saturday, April 6, at Angelica Park.
 
Mifsud made quick work of Alvernia’s Nathan Bauer, winning 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, to lead the Warriors (1-4 overall, 0-2 Commonwealth) by reaching the milestone win.
 
At No. 5 singles, freshman Joe Amento (Ambler, Pa./Abington Friends School) added the team’s other point, as he notched a 4-6, 6-3, 10-2 superset tiebreaker win over Jacob Conapitski.
 
The Crusaders (6-6 overall, 2-1 Commonwealth) swept the doubles portion of play and won four singles to post its seven points.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, April 10, when they head to two-time defending Commonwealth Conference champions, Elizabethtown, for a 4 p.m. match.
