Mifsud ties singles wins record, but Warriors fall to Messiah

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Jason Mifsud (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) won his 12th singles match of the season, tying the mark for the most for a Lycoming College men’s tennis player in at least the past 50 years, but the Warriors fell to Messiah College, 8-1, in Commonwealth Conference action on Tuesday, April 16, at the West Branch Tennis Club.
 
Mifsud tied his own record set as a freshman with his 12th win, a two-set win over Michael Brookhart, 6-1, 6-2. He is also tied with by David Brown ’12 and Alex Beattie ’10, who also recorded 12 singles wins in 2009-10.
 
However, Messiah (7-4 overall, 3-0 Commonwealth) won the other five singles matches and all three doubles to post the win. Lycoming fell to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the Commonwealth.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Thursday, April 18, when they travel to Susquehanna for a 4 p.m. match.
