FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Lycoming College senior
Jason Mifsud (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) won both his singles matches to advance to the semifinals of the B2 singles flight at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regionals at the University of Mary Washington on Saturday, Sept. 29.
Mifsud started his run with an 8-6 win over Carnegie Mellon’s Paul Okuda before posting an 8-4 win over Virginia Wesleyan’s Tyler Chang moved him into the semifinals. He will play at 10 a.m. against Johns Hopkins' Jeff Kamai before the winner of the match plays in the finals at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30.
Senior
Cody Heffner (Williamsport, Pa./Muncy) also won a singles match in the B6 singles flight, beating Rodd Raddi of Penn State Abington, 8-2, to open the tournament before falling to Nate Hoskins of York, 8-4, in the quarterfinals.
In doubles play, Mifsud and Heffner played in the B2 doubles bracket, falling to Dickinson’s Ari Blask and John Britton in the first round, 8-6. In the consolation bracket, the pair fell to Virginia Wesleyan’s Spencer Bullock and Chang, 8-2.
The pair are the first players in school history to compete at the ITA Regionals.
