DALLAS, Pa.—The Lycoming college men's tennis team earned their first victory of the season, defeating Misercordia 5-2 in a road matchup on Saturday, Sept. 27, for the team's first win since a victory over Lancaster Bible College on March 28, 2024.
The Warriors took two of the three doubles sets, while also winning four of the six singles matches to take the victory. Lycoming moves to 1-2 and Misericordia fell to 0-1.
Senior Josh Neidert (Reading, Pa. / Oley Valley) and first-year Josh Myers (Williamsport, Pa. / St. John Neumann) teamed up for a 6-4 win in No. 1 doubles, followed by sophomores Logan Hammond (Williamsport, Pa. / Loyalsock Township) and Kayvan Shams (Williamsport, Pa. / South Williamsport) cruising to a 6-1 victory in No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, Myers took No. 2 singles 6-7, 6-1, 10-2, Shams won No. 3 singles in a 6-2, 6-2 straight-set victory, then senior Luke Taylor (Williamsport, Pa. / Word of Life Bible Institute) clinched the win for the Warriors by taking No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-3. Hammond added a final victory at No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
The Warriors will be back home for their second-to-last match of the fall, taking on Thiel College on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at the Brandon Park Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m.
