Warriors keep improving at River Run Invitational

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Thirteen members of the Lycoming College cross country teams ran season-bests against tough competition that included several Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference schools and some very good Division III schools at the Lock Haven University River Run Invitational on Saturday morning, Sept. 22.
 
Senior Michelle Herman (Altoona, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) continued to drop seconds off her time, posting a 24:33.3, her best time since her freshman year, to lead the women’s team to a 12th-place finish.
 
Herman took 40th and finished just 19 seconds behind her career-best of 24:14.90, run as a freshman at the NCAA Mideast Regionals.
 
Senior Ashley Buck (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) dropped 1:23 off her previous best time in her second career 6K, finishing 78th with a time of 25:56.6. Freshman Rachel Salmon (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) added a career-best 28:37.5, dropping nearly half a minute off her previous best and sophomore Heather Cunningham (York, Pa./Central York) dropped under 30 minutes for the first time, posting a time of 29:32.7 to take 135th. Junior Carmen Niemeyer (Brookings, S.D./Brookings) rounded out the top five for Lycoming, finishing in 33:38.5 and sophomore Meaghan Jones (Lansdowne, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara) continued to show improvement, finishing in 36:29.4.
 
Several men posted season-bests en route to their 12th-place finish, led by junior Mike Puchalski (Redlands, Calif./Redlands East Valley), who dropped 40 seconds off his previous season-best to finish in 31:22.3.
 
Rittenhouse finished 111th to lead the Warriors, as he notched a time of 30:33.1, coming in just ahead of Puchalski, who took 127th. Sophomore Alex Bottorff (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) added his top time of the season, notching a 31:29.3 to take 128th and sophomore Rory McAtee (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) broke 32 minutes for the first time this year, notching a 31:59.4. Sophomore Chris McAtee (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) rounded out the top five for the Warriors, as he notched a 32:41.1 to take 145th.
 
Freshman Josh Allabaugh (Nanticoke, Pa./Greater Nanticoke Area) added a time of 33:39.7 and freshman Jacob McClain (Cogan Station, Pa./Jersey Shore) knocked a minute off his previous best, finishing in 35:26.8. Senior Kevan Guerin (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) posted a season-best time of 35:55.9 and freshman Austin Sungenis (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) dropped two minutes off his previous best, finishing in 36:14.8. Freshman Jamal Nelson (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) also notched a career-best 36:27.7, along with senior Patrick McAtee (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area), who dropped 1:10 off his previous best time, finishing in 40:40. Sophomore Jalil Samuel (Parkton, Md./Hereford) finished in 41:16.4 and sophomore John Paul Keith (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) added a time of 41:43.8 in his first collegiate race.
 
The Warriors stay in action on Saturday, Sept. 29, when they head to the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational at 10:30 a.m.
