Herman’s top 10 performance leads Warriors at Delaware Valley Invitational

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. –
Senior Michelle Herman (Altoona, Pa./Hollidaysburg) led the Lycoming College cross country teams in their season-opening meet at the Delaware Valley Invitational, as the captain finished a career-best seventh in a field of 134 runners at the meet on Saturday, Sept. 1.
 
Already with two career top-20 finishes at the season-opening meet, Herman posted her first career top 10 finish at the Aggies’ meet, posting a career-best 25:18.37 on the course, besting her mark of 25:45.10 as a sophomore in 2010.
 
She helped the Warriors to an 11th-place finish, as freshman Rachel Salmon (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) finished the 6K course in 30:22.66 to take 77th and sophomore Heather Cunningham (York, Pa./Central York) added a time of 31:52.13 to take 89th. Junior Carmen Niemeyer (Brookings, S.D./Brookings) finished in 34:45.42 and freshman Chelsea Henderson (Yonkers, Pa./Yonkers) added a time of 35:32.88. Sophomore Meaghan Jones (Lansdowne, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara) added a time of 40:47.60 to round out the Warriors day.
 
On the men’s side, the Warriors used another balanced effort to finish in a solid 10th-place, beating Middle Atlantic Conference foes Alvernia and FDU-Florham during the race.
 
Freshman Peter Rittenhouse (Green Lane, Pa./Quakertown Community) led the team with a 46th-place finish in his first race, posting a time of 32:14.51. Fellow freshman Josh Allabaugh (Nanticoke, Pa./Greater Nanticoke Area) took 56th with a time of 33:20.86 and sophomore Alex Bottorff (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) took 64th with a time of 34:17.43. Junior captain Mike Puchalski (Redlands, Calif./Redlands East Valley) took 77th with a time of 35:44.27 to round out the team’s scoring runners.
 
Sophomore Rory McAtee (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) posted a time of 36:10.58, freshman Austin Sungenis (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) finished in 38:15.21 and junior Paul Tokgozoglu (Dayton, Md./Cedar Brook Academy) added a time of 39:07.61. freshman Jamal Nelson (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) came in at 39:13.81, senior Kevan Guerin (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) finished in 43:13.56, sophomore Chris McAtee (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) finished in 43:52.61, sophomore Jalil Samuel (Parkton, Md./Hereford) posted a time of 44:34.69 and freshman James Ahrens (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) added a time of 45:01.71. Senior Patrick McAtee (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) wrapped up Lycoming’s runners, posting a time of 52:33.86.
 
The Warriors head to Lebanon, Pa. for the Dutchmen Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 8, with the meet set for 10:15 a.m. at the Union Canal Tunnel Park.
