READING, Pa. – Senior
Devin Rachael (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) posted a singles and doubles win to lead the Lycoming College men’s tennis team on Saturday, April 28, but Alvernia University was able to clinch a Commonwealth Conference Championship berth over the Warriors with a 7-2 win.
In doubles play, Rachael and junior
Frankie Casale (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock Township) notched an 8-2 win over Kevin Brandt and Zach Marsar at No. 2. In singles, Rachael added a 6-3, 6-1 win over Will Gerber at No. 3.
However, the Crusaders won the other two doubles and five singles matches, despite a tight 7-5, 7-5 match between Nate Bauer and junior
Cody Heffner (Williamsport, Pa./Muncy) and a 2-6, 6-3, 10-5 win by Kevin Brandt over sophomore
Jack Port (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) at No. 5.
The Crusaders improved to 8-6 overall and 2-4 in the Commonwealth Conference, earning the No. 4 seed in the conference playoffs due to the third tiebreaker of point differential between tied teams. The Warriors finish the season 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the league, as they finished tied for fourth with Alvernia and Arcadia. The Crusaders won 11 matches in the meets with Arcadia and Lycoming while Arcadia won nine and Lycoming seven.
