Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior
Jason Mifsud (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) became the first Lycoming College men’s tennis player in the last 30 years to win 30 career singles matches, but the Warriors fell to Messiah College, 6-3, in an important Commonwealth Conference matchup on Wednesday, April 25, at Bruce Henry Park.
The Warriors fall to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference, making a Saturday showdown at Alvernia at 1 p.m. critical for the Warriors to earn a spot in the Commonwealth Conference Championship for the third straight year. If the Warriors beat Alvernia, the Warriors will clinch the No. 4 seed in the playoffs.
Mifsud reached the milestone with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Michael Brookhart at No. 1 singles and he also added an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles with junior partner
Cody Heffner (Williamsport, Pa./Muncy) against Brookhart and Andrew Wismer.
The Warriors managed just one more point against the Falcons (6-5 overall, 4-2 Commonwealth), as junior
Frankie Casale (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock Township) posted a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles against David Wichert.
Lycoming came close to wins in two other matches, as Casale and junior
Devin Rachael (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) lost in a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles to Peter Shuck and Zachary Brunner, 9-8 (5). At No. 4 singles, Rachael narrowly fell, 3-6, 7-5, 10-7.
