ANNVILLE, Pa. – For the second straight Commonwealth Conference match, the Lycoming College men’s tennis team posted a 9-0 sweep, this time downing Lebanon Valley on Sunday, April 3, at the LVC Tennis Complex, improving to an impressive 18-0 in conference matches this year heading into an anticipated showdown with the top seed in the 2010 conference playoffs, Elizabethtown, on Wednesday, April 6.

The match with Elizabethtown is also rematch of the 2010 Commonwealth Conference match, which the Warriors won, 5-2. Both teams will enter the match at Bruce Henry Park with perfect conference records, with the Warriors at 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the league and the Blue Jays at 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference. First serve is at 3:30 p.m.

The Warriors got out to a hot start by sweeping doubles play as brothers sophomore David and senior Robert Brown (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) posted an 8-2 win over Ethan Grodzinski and Ryan Wetzel at No. 1, sophomore Jason Mifsud (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) and senior Phillip Shannon (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) notched an 8-2 win over Tom Neckelmann and Brad Sweigart at No. 2 and sophomore Cody Heffner (Williamsport, Pa./Muncy) and junior Devin Rachael (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) notched an 8-3 win over Andrew Wilson and Kyle Kahl at No. 3.

In singles play, David Brown posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Weitzel at No. 3 before Mifsud took the clinching point from Grodzinski, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1. Robert Brown followed with a tight three-set win over Sweigart, 5-7, 6-5, 7-6 (5) at No. 2. Shannon notched a 6-2, 6-4 win over Wilson at No. 4, Heffner added a 6-2, 6-2 win over Joel Ramos at No. 5 and Rachael posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Kahl at No. 6 to cap off the sweep.

The Dutchmen fell to 6-6 overall and 0-1 in the Commonwealth Conference.
