LOYALSOCK TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Sophomore Jason Mifsud (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, helping the Lycoming College men’s tennis team post its third postseason win in the past two years and advance to the Commonwealth Conference finals, as the Warriors downed Lebanon Valley, 5-2, in the league’s semifinals on Tuesday, April 26, at Bruce Henry Park.

The second-seeded Warriors (8-3 overall) won two of three doubles matches to take an early lead, as brothers sophomore David and senior Robert Brown (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) posted an 8-1 win over Ethan Grodzinski and Tom Necklemann at No. 1 and sophomore Cody Heffner (Williamsport, Pa./Muncy) and junior Devin Rachael (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) posted an 8-3 win over Andrew Wilson and Kyle Kuhl at No. 3.

In singles play, the Warriors expanded the lead, as Heffner posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Wilson at No. 5 and Rachael downed Kahl, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6. After a loss at No. 2 made it 4-2, Mifsud clinched the match with his 6-2, 6-2 win over Grodzinski to improve to 10-4 on the season.

The No. 3 seeded Flying Dutchmen finish the year 10-9 overall.

The Warriors, who defeated Elizabethtown, 5-2, in the conference championship in 2010, will get a rematch in 2011, as No. 1 seed E-town downed Messiah, 5-0, in the other semifinal. The championship is slated for Saturday, April 30 at Elizabethtown at 3 p.m.
