GRANTHAM, Pa. – With three doubles wins, the Lycoming College men’s tennis team paced itself en route to clinching a home match in the Commonwealth Conference semifinals, as it downed Messiah, 7-2, in conference action on Thursday, April 21.

The Warriors (6-3 overall, 4-1 Commonwealth) wrap up their regular season on Monday, April 25 when they head to Albright for a 1 p.m. Commonwealth Conference match, but hold tiebreaking wins over both two-loss teams in the conference, meaning they will host the No. 3 seed in the semifinals at Bruce Henry Park on Tuesday, April 26. Elizabethtown wrapped up the No. 1 seed by posting a 6-0 conference slate. This is the first time in school history that the Warriors have reached the conference team playoffs in consecutive years.

In doubles play, sophomore Jason Mifsud (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) and senior Phillip Shannon (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) posted an 8-0 win over David Wichert and Chris Brittingham at No. 2 and sophomore Cody Heffner (Williamsport, Pa./Muncy) and junior Devin Rachael (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) added an 8-3 win over Luke Sisson and Nathan Shertzer at No. 3. At No. 1, brothers senior Robert and sophomore David Brown (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) wrapped up the sweep with an 8-6 win over Andrew Wismer and Justin Meckley.

In singles action, Mifsud posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Wismer at No. 1, Robert Brown added a 6-4, 7-5 win over Meckley at No. 2 and David Brown provided the clinching fifth point with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3. Heffner also picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win over Sisson at No. 5 singles.
