SCRANTON, Pa. – Sophomore Cody Heffner (Williamsport, Pa./Muncy) provided a win at No. 5 singles and the pairing of sophomore Jason Mifsud (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) and senior Phillip Shannon (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) posted a win at No. 2 doubles, but the Lycoming College men’s tennis team couldn’t overcome the Colonial States Athletic Conference preseason favorite, Marywood, falling 7-2 on the road in non-conference action to open its spring slate on Sunday afternoon, March 20.

After a loss at No. 1 doubles, Mifsud and Shannon tied the match with an 8-4 win over Wyatt Nolan and Daniel Pfafman at No. 2, but the Pacers (3-3 overall) won the last doubles point and took three singles matches to clinch the meet before Heffner added his 7-5, 6-3 win over Ryan Mulqueen. Sophomore David Brown (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville  Area) fell in a heartbreaker at No. 3 singles to Pfafman, 6-2, 7-6 (2) to close out the match.

The Warriors (2-2 overall) get back into action on Saturday, March 26, when they open the Commonwealth Conference season by facing Arcadia at 1 p.m. at Bruce Henry Park.
