CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Junior
Michelle Herman (Altoona, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) led the Lycoming College cross country teams with a 123
rd-place finish at the NCAA Mideast Regionals at DeSales University on a beautiful Saturday, Nov. 12.
Herman posted a season-best time of 25:48 to take 123
rd as the only representatitve of the Lycoming women’s team. Herman bested her previous best 6K time by 21 seconds en route to her finish.
The men’s team posted a 41
st-place finish, as it placed ahead of MAC teams Delaware Valley and Alvernia. The team was led by career-best times of freshmen
Rory McAtee (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) and
Gerhardt Gerckens (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional).
McAtee became the first runner to break the 30-minute mark in the 8K for the Warriors this year, as he finished 222
nd in the 328-runner field, posting a time of 29:50. Gerckens added a career-best time of 30:18 to take 244
th.
Sophomore
Mike Puchalski (Redlands, Calif./Redlands East Valley) crossed in 31:03 and freshman
Alex Bottorff (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) crossed in 31:32. Senior
R.J. Wiechecki (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) posted a time of 33:30 to wrap up his collegiate career and freshman
Chris McAtee (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) crossed in 34:22.
The Warriors showed marked improvement in 2011 under third-year head coach
Lesley Larson, as Herman earned All-MAC honors, the first for a Warrior women’s cross country runner since 2005, while the men’s team won the Cabrini Invitational and featured a three freshmen, Rory McAtee, Bottorff and Gerckens, that scored in every meet for the team.
