Robert Brown ’11 with his 25
th career singles win, the most for a Lycoming College men’s tennis player since at least 1980, helping the Warriors post a 6-3 non-conference win at Juniata on Thursday, Oct. 6.
Mifsud posted the win over Daisuke Miyakoshi, 6-1, 7-6 (5) at No. 1 singles to lead the Warriors (2-2 overall) to a come-from-behind win.
Lycoming fell behind, 3-1, as only the duo of Mifsud and high school teammate, junior
David Brown (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) posted an 8-6 win over Miyakoshi and Justin Wisniewski at No. 1. However, losses at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles and a loss at No. 3 singles put the Warriors down by two points before Mifsud got the Warriors back on track. Brown followed with a 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-5 win over Elliott Perow at No. 2 to tie the match.
The Warriors bottom three all posted their first career wins to wrap up the 6-3 win, led by freshman
Sean Marshall (Waverly, N.Y./Athens Area), who beat Matthew Butler, 6-1, 0-6, 6-2, at No. 4 singles. Sophomore
Chris Connolly (Montoursville, Pa./Williamsport Area) added a 6-3, 6-1 win over Sam Brumbaugh at No. 5 and sophomore
Jack Port (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) added a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kyle Salage at No. 6.
The Warriors get back on the court with their final meet of the fall when they head to the MAC Individual Championships on Saturday, Oct. 8. The tournament starts at 9 a.m. at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
