Herman earns all-conference honors to lead Warriors at MAC Championships

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Sophomore Michelle Herman (Altoona, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) became the first Lycoming College women’s cross country runner to earn All-Middle Atlantic Conference honors since 1995 on a snow-filled Messiah College course to highlight the Warriors’ day at the MAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29. The men’s cross country team posted an 11th-place finish in the 14-team field.
 
Herman led the women’s squad, which featured four runners to fall one runner short of scoring, as she finished 18th to earn Second Team All-MAC honors, becoming the first runner at Lycoming to earn league laurels since Beth McCarthy finished sixth in 1995.
 
Elizabethtown took both the men’s and women’s team titles, with Eric Reichert taking the title in the men’s 8K race with a time of 27:30.60 and Traci Tempone winning the women’s 6K title in 23:58.40.
 
On a course filled with snow due to the rare October storm that hit the Harrisburg-area hard, freshman Alanna Cimerol (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) finished in 29:18.10 to take 58th and sophomore Carmen Niemeyer (Brookings, S.D./Brookings) posted a career-best 30:16.00 to finish 91st. Freshman Tiffany Casulli (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) added a time of 34:50.50 to take 114th.
 
On the men’s side, freshman Alex Bottorff (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) led the squad with a time of 31:59.90 to take 77th and sophomore Mike Puchalski (Redlands, Calif./Redlands East Valley)  took 82nd with a time of 32:05.70. Freshman Rory McAtee (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) took 89th with a time of 32:17.40  and his twin brother, Chris McAtee, finished fifth for the Warriors with a personal-best 34:00.10. Freshman Gerhardt Gerckens (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) took the fourth spot for Lycoming with a time of 32:56.20.
 
Junior Kevan Guerin (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) added a time of 35:14.10 and senior R.J. Wiechecki (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) finished in 36:01.60. Freshman Jacob Kupperman (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) posted a career-best 37:33.80 and junior Isaiah Thomas (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergen C.C.) added a time of 39:16.30.
 
The Warriors will get back on a course when they wrap up their season with the NCAA Division III Mideast Regionals at DeSales University on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m.
